A new hospital-based center in Knoxville offers expecting mothers more options for delivering their babies. St. Mary's Birth and Midwifery Center opened in September in the Women's Pavilion at Physicians Regional Medical Center under the direction of Dr. Leonard Brabson.
That hospital is owned by Tennova Healthcare, and was formerly known as St. Mary's Medical Center.
Dr. Brabson explains, many women look for additional birthing options.
"We've delivered babies at this hospital for nearly 80 years. Its had a heritage of being what's called "family-centered," which means we get a lot of people that want to do natural births or un-medicated births," he said.
He says, while many moms wish to keep their delivery as natural as possible, the center's location on a hospital campus provides an additional safety net.
