August 2007, I gave birth to my first child. While I was pregnant, one of the things I really struggled with was what to bring to the hospital for the labor / birth. There were lists out there, long lists. All of them had different things on them. I know people who brought birthing balls, boom boxes, aromatherapy massage oils, as well as the clothes for themselves and their baby.
I found myself confused and overwhelmed with this seemingly simple task. I also wondered when I should pack? Should I live out of a suitcase for a week, or month?
After my daughter was born, I came up with the idea of the Push Pack – a all in one bag, pre-packed with the “essentials” I wanted & needed. I interviewed a bunch of moms asking them what things they were so glad to have or wished they’d had while they were in labor. The Push Pack includes the items that were mentioned most often. Call it wisdom & experience, peace of mind, and a gift of love all wrapped into one bag.
When I was pregnant with my second daughter, I made two sample Push Packs. Little did I know my baby would arrive a week early. I was 30 minutes from home and told by my doctor to go straight to the hospital. I hadn’t packed my labor bag. We had recently moved and I had a 18 month old at home! I called my mom & had her bring me one of the Push Packs. Can you imagine trying to tell someone how to pack all of your personal stuff for you? It was then I decided that I would make these for other moms.
Reactions from friends at baby showers was always the same, “This is the BEST baby shower gift!” “Where do you find this?” or “You have to sell these!” I started making the Push Pack and selling them to friends & family. The best compliment was when moms who had received a Push Pack would buy them to give as gifts to others.
Fast forward to 2011, now the mom of three girls, I decided to officially launch my company, Small Batch Studio. With the support of my family, friends and co-workers … we bring to you the Push Pack.
